Farm Happenings for July 19, 2024

Posted on July 15th, 2024 by Alex Smith

Hello all,

Shout out to our irrigation team. We kept water flowing just about all last week and over the weekend - no end in sight. While it is nice for a lot of crops to be able to control the water, a little rain now and again helps maintain the farmers.

The big, exciting event last week was our annual garlic harvest. The entire team spent the hottest day last week pulling our 2024 crop of garlic out of the ground. By the end of the day, all 20000 heads were bunched and stored in the barn. This week, we are spending some of the hotter afternoons hanging the garlic in the barn to cure for a few months.

Please note the Tropea Onions. These onions are originally from Tropea, Italy. They are often called Torpedo Onions. I usually assume that is because of their shape, but I also wonder if a typo occurred somewhere in it's history. Anyway, they are a versatile fresh onion that comes in a bunch of 3-4 onions. They are often called for in Italian recipes.

Happy cooking!

Alex

Please note that not all produce in your share has been washed, including leafy greens. We recommend you wash all produce prior to eating.
