We grow a couple varieties of winter squash: delicata, acorn, and butternut. We grow much more butternut than the other two varieties, mostly for fall shares and into the early winter season. We harvested all of the delicata and acorn squash today, which we typically put in our summer shares, so you'll see these on the list this week.
We also put lots of hay up in the barn! Though exhausting, it is a satisfying job because it prepares us for winter months ahead.
The sun still feels strong and the days hot, but as they get a little shorter we are quietly reminded that fall will come. Walking the fields and checking on the baby fall crops, I had the thought: they seem small now, but I know that before long they'll be ready to pick. Harvest time always comes up quickly, it jumps up on you. Perhaps it is because time seems to fly in summer on the farm, or perhaps it's because there are so many crops to watch at once, or perhaps both.
PEACHES available this week from Colora Orchards just down the road from the farm. Right now we have Yellow Freestone peaches that have not been sprayed this year! You will find them on the extras list for $15/half bushel. We don't know how long they'll be around, so get them while you can!
If you have a delivered share and would like to order chicken or beef, the best way to do so is through our online store.
