FARM HANDS DAYS: June 13 and 14

Join us to plant SWEET POTATO Plants JUNE 13 and 14 during CSA Pickups.

Sometimes I'll offer up a "Farm Hands Day". These are invitations to help grow the crops that feed you. You might be planting or harvesting. You'll learn a lot along the way! Next up is sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes grow from a sprout that shoots off of a planted sweet potato and its called a slip. We'll be planting sweet potato slips during the Thurs June 13 and Fri June 14 pickups. Good job for all ages. Join us and learn how sweet potatoes grow.

WHAT'S GROWING ON

We are enjoying an early start to summer squash and soon, cucumbers. We will plant several sets of these crops throughout the summer. Kohlrabi is an alien-looking bulb that is popular in Europe. Peel away the purple skin and slice the white bulb to eat raw with dip or lightly sautee or grill. Don't overcook kohlrabi or salad turnips. They are best raw or lightly sauteed/grilled. We are harvesting napa cabbages and round green cabbages as they size up in the garden. We store them for the weeks to come. Try some interesting slaw flavors, like asian slaw or curry slaw. Make farm chi!

WELCOME SUMMER INTERNS

Join me in welcoming Sarah, Ana and Julia to the farm team! They join us from three different colleges for a hands-on experience in sustainable organic ag. Welcome to the farm!

HOW TO RINSE GREENS

Give the greens a generous rinse or three. Use a big bowl with room for leaves to float. Add a little salt to the water. Rinse several times if necessary. But also...If there are little garden aphids or a slug on your greens, remember that it’s straight from the garden and that bugs are better than chemicals. Sometimes they make it home with you.
