Farm Happenings for September 12, 2024

Posted on September 9th, 2024 by Ilene Freedman

WHAT'S GROWING ON

Really feels like fall with the dip in temperatures. We are watching the butternut squashes and sweet potatoes for readiness. They need a few more weeks, per usual.

The streak of lettuce harvest continues. Phil has been a lettuce magician, through the summer heat and the drought of 2024. Grateful for his persistence. Nice to have the greens, including arugula and bok choy too. Enjoy the batch of Hakurei salad turnips too!

U-PICK: The bright colors of the zinnias dampen into cool heathered colors in the fall. Cherry tomatoes continue a bit. We are growing some fall snap peas!! Pick fresh chives in the herb garden.

RENEWAL TIME IN OCTOBER

Renewals for next year will begin in October. Do you have some friends who would enjoy CSA next year? Help us spread the word to your friends. They can come with you for pickup and enjoy u-pick crops, If interested in joining, they can even sign up and join us for the tail end of this season.

DIGGING THE SWEETS

Watch my notices for news of a sweet potato dig. We will try to invite you to help with the treasure hunt. We balance the timing of their readiness and the dampness of the soil for digging. Then they need to be cured before they are sweet and ready for you.

CSA GOES THROUGH NOV 7-9
