The peppers are really starting to shine this week! We are growing frying peppers (shishito and Jimmy Nardello), sweet pepper (orange Aura/Glow) and Bell (green/yellow/red). We will also have hot and spice peppers for the Fall CSA.
If you look closely at the picture you can see slight damage from the leaf-footed bug which is out in full swing in our part of Alabama. If you have a garden or even a potted pepper, tomato, eggplant, or cucumber plant you will likely see these very destructive insects. Leaf-footed bugs have piercing-sucking mouthparts that probe into shoots and fruit to suck plant juice. They especially like the peppers and tomatoes when they have started to color. You will likely see some of this damage on tomatoes and peppers that are in your share. It does not effect the taste and most is very mild damage, however it does effect shelf life so its best to use the slightly damaged ones first.
Thank you for being a part of our Spring/Summer CSA and supporting other local producers.
