View from the Tractor
Week 5 of the CSA and it is July, these are both momentous achievements in the farm season. It is wild to think that we are at the half way point of the 2022 while it feels like there is such a long way to reach the zenith of the farming year. No matter the time of year we are always looking forward, hence the fall crops going into the ground. We have now planted our cauliflowers and cabbages plus more bunching greens. In the greenhouse our fall radicchios and watermelon radishes are being seeded.
This week we are getting our first taste of summer crops with bunches of basil. While the tomatoes still have a ways to go, this first round of basil will give you an inkling of the flavors yet to come. We bunch our basil and if you treat the bunch like flowers and put it in a small glass of water on the counter, it will freshen up for you to pick off of all week long.
All of us here at Kilt Farm wish you a safe and happy 4th of July. If you are driving along the diagonal on Monday, please honk when you go by the farm. The plants don't stop growing in honor of a national holiday, so we don't stop working.
In appreciation of great food,
Michael, Cayla, Aiden and all of the farms at Kilt Farm

And new to the add-on roster: fruit is trickling in from our partnering farmers. With the fruit season beginning to blossom, we are thrilled to be able to offer some organic orchard goodies as we prepare for the long-awaited fruit season to enter full bloom. Throw some irresistible fruit into your CSA share this week to satisfy that sweet-tooth brought to you by Mother Nature!
Check out some of our favorites add-ons of the week:
Apricots You read that right -- Apricots are in! While our fruit share does not start till August, you can still add fruit offerings as they become available from our partnering farmers. This week, we are excited to offer Perfection Apricots from Fortunate Fruit in Delta, Colorado. These juicy, sweet, and out-of-this-world apricots come from dedicated fruit farmers Lauren & Ewell. Fortunate Fruit grows a large variety of organic tree fruits that are tended to with care to ensure the highest quality, organic, and of course absolutely delicious orchard offerings. |

Pasta If you haven't tried a box of incredible pasta from Pastificio yet, this is your sign! This week are offering the lovely, pumpkin-shaped pasta also known as zucca. Pastificio was born when Claudia and her husband teamed up to change the pasta industry; creating hand-crafted pastas made from ancient and heritage grains to bring back local & high-end pastas to the market. These pastas truly stand out from the rest you might find on store shelves: Because they are made from Colorado-grown wheat varieties that pre-date todays typical processed wheats, they are packed with more nutrients and flavor. Throw some CSA veggies in a pasta dish with Pastificio's pastas and you won't be disappointed. |

Flowers Our friends at the Fresh Herb Co bring us beautiful weekly-rotating bouquets of flowers that are grown, picked, and arranged-to-perfection in Colorado-- In fact, these flowers can be found just down the road from our farm! Chet and Kristy Anderson started growing flowers and herbs with a mission to provide fresh and sustainably-grown color and joy to the homes of their neighbors and community. These bouquets are always stunning and are the perfect gift or table setting! |
