Week 16 - the beautiful light of fall but the heat of summer

 View from the Tractor

We have so much to be grateful for here in Boulder County. Last weekend's rain was such a treat of cool weather with the soft sounds of pitter-pattering all night long. The heat has been a bit much for late September but we appreciate the additional time to ripen the last of the summer crops. The later sunrises and cool mornings remind us that fall is coming. We have access to such amazing food all summer long here on the Front Range, whereas others can only dream about such a bounty.

Personally, I am grateful for the support of my wife in this crazy endeavor and the joy in seeing my son run around the farm learning and growing every day. Farming has taught me so much and I have seen so many people come through the farm and grow in leaps and bounds. On top of it all, the work we do, no matter how grueling, is feeding our community the best food possible. This is the definition of leaving a lasting impact.

This is the 16th week of our CSA. When the season started it felt like it would never end and now, a few short weeks from the end, it feels like it went by in a flash. I hope you enjoy all of the flavors of this week's share and take moment to reflect on all that we have to be grateful for.

With deepest gratitude,

Michael and the Farmers at Kilt Farm

Fruit Share

For our last fruit share of the season we are going to have the most amazing fall apple, the Johnagold. This is a sweet and juicy apple that is great for fresh eating, baking and even frying. It has been a wonderful fruit season with a ton of fruit to get through. These apples are also great as they hold up well wth freezing, jut in case you want a taste of fresh Colorado apples in the dead of winter.

We have Honeycrisp apples, Bartlett pears and the Johnagold available as add on extras.

Enjoy

Anaheim Peppers

The pepper season is coming to a close, but it is the perfect time to make green chili or our families favorite, sweet chili jam. Our anahiems are ripening in the field and while they have a kick, they are also starting to sweeten up with the red color. These peppers will make an amazing green chili or just roast them, puree and freeze them in an ice cube tray for a place of flavor through out the winter.

10 pound bags of Anaheim peppers are available for $45 as an add on this week.

Thank you so much for being a member of the farm. We can't do it with out you.
