View from the Tractor
Yay! Finally, a beautiful day has arrived. The sun is shining, and the staff is diligently working in the fields, despite the swamp-like conditions reminiscent of the Deep South. I wish I could say that we've had a rain-free week, but unfortunately, we've received more than 2.5 inches of rainfall. Colorado is typically known for its hot, dry, and sunny weather, but this year has been an exception. Perhaps, with the arrival of summer, the trend will shift. Happy Summer Solstice!
The weather has truly thrown us off balance. Our well-crafted planting and production plan has been discarded, and now it feels like we're in full triage mode on the farm. Each day, we assess the most pressing tasks and overall work that needs to be done, and we tackle them head-on. The task list is constantly evolving, but my focus remains on growing more food and doing so in a manner that ensures high-quality produce and the long-term sustainability of the farm.
In the upcoming weeks, you may notice smaller shares. As we continue to tend to and nurture the crops we currently have, while also planting new ones, our available food for the shares is limited. It's never the ideal position for a farmer and caretaker of a CSA program. We always strive for abundance, but sometimes Mother Nature has other plans for us.
After discussing the matter with member support at Harvie, our online software, it seems that the algorithm struggles to distribute food when supplies are insufficient. This means that some shares may be full while others may be lacking. Rest assured, I will ensure there is extra food available for substitutions and additions to help balance things out. I kindly request that you sign into your Harvie account and take a few minutes to review your share this weekend. If you're satisfied with what you have, feel free to let it remain as is. However, if your share has limited food, please customize it accordingly.
For shares that end up being lower in value, we will automatically add a credit to your account. This credit can be used at any point during the season to add items to your share.
Please be aware that we are working tirelessly to get back on track. We truly appreciate the trust you've placed in us by joining our CSA. If you could spare a moment to perform a good weather dance, I believe the bounty will soon flow.
Sincerely, Michael and all the Farmers at Kilt Farm.

Pasta If you haven't tried a box of incredible pasta from Pastificio yet, this is your sign! This week we are offering Campanelle Pastificio was born when Claudia and her husband teamed up to change the pasta industry; creating hand-crafted pastas made from ancient and heritage grains to bring back local & high-end pastas to the market. These pastas truly stand out from the rest you might find on store shelves: Because they are made from Colorado-grown wheat varieties that pre-date todays typical processed wheats, they are packed with more nutrients and flavor. Throw some CSA veggies in a pasta dish with Pastificio's pastas and you won't be disappointed. |
