Summer arrives in so many ways.

View from the Tractor

I know every year is different on a farm and as in life. I am so very grateful with the weather and the team that has come together here on the farm. It does feel like a 180 degree swing from the experience I was having a year ago. Even though this may be the case, we did shift some aspects of the operation to be better prepared for what could/can happen. This year we reduced the size of the farm from 80 acres over 3 properties to 50 acres. Our cultivated ground is now 8 acres instead of 12. While this has helped minimize the staffing requirements, I felt confident that there was going to be a lot of time spent training the next generation of farmers and getting them to be highly productive.

As this early season unfolded I made the decision to get some fantastic spring crops in the ground, but put more energy into our summer crops. I am thrilled to see how well everything is doing across the farm including the melons, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers and our spring greens. This year we are expanding our partnership wth other local certified organic farms so as to be able to focus on what we do best.

This week we will be adding a few items in our CSA that will help provide some variety and help fill in the gaps that formed in our production as we pushed hard to get all of the summer crops in such a fine place. I am also thrilled to be farming in a way that not only takes care of the soil, the staff and our members, but builds a healthier food production community in Boulder County.

Fruit Share Update

With the weather being so unusually warm, farmers across Colorado have seen their produce jump ahead of schedule. So, while our Fruit Share has been scheduled to start in the week of July 15th, we are hoping to bring you some delicious organic fruit a few weeks early. We will update you when we get exact dates.

Until then we still have fruit to purchase as add-ons...

Featured Add-Ons

This week you'll find our usual add-ons including incredible Hazel Dell Mushrooms, Kilt Farm Raw Honey, artisanal Pastificio Pasta, gorgeous Flower Bouquets from the Fresh Herb Co. And new to the add-on roster: fruit is trickling in from our partnering farmers!

Apricots

With the fruit season beginning to blossom, we are thrilled to be able to offer some organic orchard goodies as we prepare for the long-awaited fruit season to enter full bloom. Throw some delicious Apricots into your CSA share this week to satisfy that sweet-tooth brought to you by Kokopelli Orchard.
Apricots come in a 2lb bag for an additional $10.00. This is not part of our regular fruit share, which will begin in July, but an early season add-on from our friends on the Western slope.

Flowers

Our friends at the Fresh Herb Co bring us beautiful weekly-rotating bouquets of flowers that are grown, picked, and arranged-to-perfection in Colorado-- In fact, these flowers can be found just down the road from our farm!

Chet and Kristy Anderson started growing flowers and herbs with a mission to provide fresh and sustainably-grown color and joy to the homes of their neighbors and community.

These bouquets are always stunning and are the perfect gift or table setting!

Have a wonderful weekend -- We hope you enjoy this coming week's share.
