Farm Happenings for the week of July 29, 2024 - Sharing this earth

Posted on July 27th, 2024 by Mike Milsom

So as I am fond of saying, we share this earth.

That being said, there are some things, such as the Hornworm, that I am much less fond.  The Hornworm, is actually remarkably stealthful laying underneath the leaves along the stems.  They are a little bit alarming to look at...unless you are their parent. Like something out of a Japanese horror/monster film. They can ravage a plant in no time and then happily move over onto the next one.

Jane, one of our members on Instagram asked if these were going to be in our share this week.  Got me thinking and I googled it. Sure enough...  lol

In a large skillet or WOK, heat the olive oil. Then, throw in the hornworms and lightly fry for about 4 minutes. Great with thinly sliced tomatoes and a light smattering of fresh shrimp.

Note to self: When travelling through the deep south of the United States of America, read the menu with great care when sampling the local cuisine.

So, while are not offering Hornworm this week (sorry Jane), We are adding sweet corn, peaches, strawberries and nice array of fresh herbs.

We hope you enjoy -)
