Farm Happenings for the week of August 12, 2024 - the alien edition

Posted on August 10th, 2024 by Mike Milsom

A number of you have heard me tell this story at the farm pick up, but if you haven't....it is a good one.

Last Saturday, I was out on my tractor most of the day. It was very hot and it was taking a while to hill the potatoes. As many of you know we are on the flight path for the Ottawa Airport, so we are used to seeing planes with their lights on coming in to land.

Well after 10pm I was still at it. Been a long day. I was alone, deep in the field, with no cell phone or anything.

I looked up into the sky towards the North/West and my eye was drawn to this powerful bead of lights about the length of Apollo 11 slowly ascending into the night sky.  I stared at it, puzzled, trying to figure it out when just as suddenly it dissappeared!

"ohhhhh no, no, no, no.....this is so not happening! I am not saying anything about this to no one!"

I imagined the media frenzy the very next day.  It was almost too cliche.

"We are here reporting LIVE at Mike's Garden Harvest, talking to Farmer Mike, who 'claims' he saw something unusual in the sky last night! For all the folks watching, what did you say you saw, Sir?"

"I did...I did....I swear on the baby jesus I dunn gone see an alien rocket ship heading up into the night sky.  I run into the house and told Mother, and she said that I should lay off the beet juice....but I swear that's what I dunn gone and saw!!"

So I sheepishly went to Google, and found, much to my relief, that I  am not losing my marbles but in fact what I saw was the launch of the SpaceX Starlink's satellite heading into orbit.  Phews...

Meanwhile, back here on the planet earth, we are offering some new stuff this week. Some lovely Redbore kale, the Rainbow chard is ready, healthy baby beets and beautiful mixed bunches of crisp green and purple kohlrabi..... which, by coincidence, look an awful lot like an alien ...  lol.

Enjoy!
