We are now in the second half of the delivery season!
And we are pretty well done planting -- the last round of argula, mustard and mizuna, turnips and bok choi was planted this morning. Okay, we do have well over 100 rhubarb plants and about 1000 asparagus plants that still need to be planted this fall. But these two crops are for future years, not for this autumn's harvest, so it doesn't count!
So what are we going to do with all our free time now?! We'll be harvesting and as we clear beds we'll be seeding cover crops (like oats and peas) to protect the soil. For other beds, we'll be spreading compost and covering beds with landscape fabric, so that they are ready for next spring.
And taking a big, deep breath! For us, the pace slows at this time of the year, the heat is less fierce and the crickets are chirping. Time to enjoy the glory of late August and September. And, it's time to do some canning for winter.
Hope are you are enjoying late summer!
