Week 13 -- Cool and wet!

Posted on September 8th, 2020 by Kristine Hammel

It's a cool and wet start to the week. This isn't ideal weather for ripening the last of the tomatoes. They do enjoy warmer temperatures and more sunshine. Fortunately, there are other crops in the garden at this time of the year that actually enjoy this weather, like many of the leafy greens and fall crops, like radish. This is just one of the many benefits of growing a wide variety of crops -- it's an insurance policy. With lots of different crops, something is bound to like the weather -- barring snowstorms, hail and tornadoes!

You'll notice a shift in the shares in the coming weeks as the tomatoes fade and fall crops come to the forefront. The fall carrots are looking good, along with lots of different leafy greens and herbs. We have giant winter squash -- not sure how we'll put those in the shares and deliver them, but we'll figure it out. There are loads of peppers ripening on the plants and the fall cauliflower and broccoli are looking promising. We also have potatoes waiting in storage and the onions are being packed up after curing.

Hope your September is off to a good start!
