Happy day-after Groundhog Day!
I missed the prognostication yesterday, but apparently Willie predicted an early spring. I'm not sure that I'm ready for that.
Either way, February 1st marks the halfway point between the winter solstice (December 21ish) and the spring equinox (March 21ish). This transition in the seasons was celebrated by the Celts as Imbolc. You can read more about it here.
So we are halfway through the winter. From here, the days are rapidly getting longer.
Time to get the growing season organized! My seeds are mostly ordered and have arrived. The crop plans, ordering of other supplies, and preparing the practical elements of the growing season (hiring staff, setting up processes, finding & improving tools, preparing spreadsheets to manage ordering and harvests) are my tasks for February. I have a list of what needs to get done.
But first, I am working on getting a new website complete. It's a work in progress that will hopefully progress rapidly! I'll keep you posted. As soon as the website is up, I'll also be opening sign ups for this year's CSA program.
Get in touch if you have any questions or ideas about the coming season.
I hope you are able to enjoy the winter sunshine!
