Somehow April flew past.
A lot of seeds were planted and both greenhouses are rather full at the moment. Once the rain passes this week, we'll be out planting and seeding in the field. The direct seeded crops on the to do list for this coming week include spinach, radish, arugula, turnip and rapini. The first round of transplanted crops include parsley, chives, onions, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, kohlrabi, chicories and lettuce! Whew!
The barn is also rather full of lambs! We have had a good lambing season so far, with just a few ewes left to lamb. Once the sun shine this coming week, the flock will be heading out to pasture.
We have also been preparing for the arrival of about 200 nut trees, including oaks, butternuts, chestnuts, hickories and hazelnuts. We will be planting these in our back hay field. Hopefully, these trees will eventually feed people and wildlife, while providing a savannah-like landscape for our sheep to graze.
I feel very fortunate to be planting seeds in challenging times.
