Over the long weekend, we have been participating in the Big Backyard Bioblitz organized by the Nature Conservancy of Canada. It's a chance to get out, discover the species in your backyard (or neighbourhood or wherever) and contribute to a citizen science project that generates valuable data for researchers. I took a tour around our veg field and snapped pictures of various trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses, along with trying to capture some animals. The dragon flies were too fast, though I did find their exoskeletons on plants in the pond and some frogs were a bit more placid. Check out some of the finds on our instagram account @persephonedays.
We have no lettuce this week -- one bed is all harvested and the next not quite ready. Fortunately, there are lots of other veg to choose from. There are cabbages for summer coleslaws, giant beets, summer squash and even the first green peppers! The tomatoes are also coming slowly. And we are going to try harvesting squash flowers for you this week. If you order them, best eat them the day you get them, they don't store long.
Hope you have a great week!
