After the generous rain of April, May and June, the weather turned rather dry here at the farm in mid July. A few little sprinkles fell over the course of the next month, but most of the rain missed us. Fortunately, our no-till methods meant that the crops have done okay without any irrigation. But, it was getting close...would we have to spend several days setting up irrigation? Only to have to take it all back down in a few weeks. Irrigation is a wonderful too, but also a giant time suck.
We usually spend the whole weekend at Summerfolk (other than taking care of animals and sleeping at home). It's a good break from the day-to-day of farming; two and a half days of music and connecting with community.
So, would we have a dry weekend for Summerfolk and then have to deal with irrigation or would we have a wet weekend for Summerfolk? Well, it turned into a bit of monsoon and quite honestly, we had a great time anyway and I prefer a wet festival to setting up irrigation!
Singing and dancing together is healing and joyous.
I hope your late summer includes connection, joy, healing and community!
