Greetings folks, here's a heads up that we just got a fresh batch of Nash's buckwheat flour, recently milled! Now's the time to make those buckwheat noodles, buckwheat pancakes, or buckwheat zucchini breads!
We hope you’ve been enjoying the summer’s bounty! This is certainly the most abundant time of year in the fields with the most diversity of vegetables on the harvest list. One of our favorite things about mid August are the new potatoes. These spuds are extra tender with skins so thin they peel right off in your hands. (They are too tender-skinned for us to wash them, hence the dirty potatoes in your shares).
We harvest them this way for just a few weeks before the green upper part of the plant gets mowed and the potatoes (which are botanically speaking, are a part of the stem that grow underground) start to thicken up their skins and become slightly starchier to prepare itself for storage. Still amazingly delicious.
Those cucumbers that we planted months ago are just starting to bear fruit, so some of you may get a chance to enjoy some in your shares this week with hopefully much more coming in the weeks to come!
Happy cooking!
