Hello members!
Getting deeper into August now and folks have been feeling like this is the endless summer of harvesting. It's the time of year where it feels like we hit cruise control on a midwestern interstate and are driving off towards the never-near horizon.
I enjoy this time of year (except for the smoke in the air) since there are much fewer decisions to be made on a daily basis and much fewer hiccups and hurdles to jump over. (Not that there are no hurdles- our irrigation line just broke, our walk-in fridge for wholesale crops was down for a few days earlier this week, a broken tractor, a messed up tiller, and the list goes on).
Now we start on our exciting cover cropping marathon! In many fields our crops are being mowed and turned in and the ground is being prepared to plant cover crop seeds. Using the horses and the seed drill, Clair has been planting fields to alfalfa and red clover. As we finish up harvesting crops, the tractor is just a week or less behind to clean up and prepare for more and more cover crops. Gotta keep the land full of life!
Enjoy the shares this week! We are especially excited to share some tender new potatoes! Skins are thin on these new spuds so we can't wash 'em for you.
