We’ve had a warm and dry fall this year. The leaves took a long time to show their color, but they finally did and were beautiful. We had no frosts at all until last week, when boom! We had three killing frosts in a row.
This took out a lot of the gardens. No more tomatoes, no more flowers; most of the herbs are kaput. Thanks to row cover, we still have some romaine lettuce and a tiny bit of salad mix. And Ron managed to pick a lot of peppers before the frost. The kale is still alive but growing much more slowly.
A new item on the list this week is cabbage. And we have sweet potatoes, red beets and garlic, plus plenty of eggs, raspberry and strawberry jam, local honey, and grass-fed beef.
Our next delivery will be in one week, on November 18, since Thanksgiving falls in the following week. Mary will be offering her buttery shortbread for the start of the holiday season.
