Holy moly y'all, have we got some surprises for you.
Cucumbers and Basil are available for boxes this week! We planned for basil, but last year our early cucumbers did poorly so we weren't expecting them until later. But here they are, rearing to go. We feel like we're finally figuring out how to grow summer crops well in this climate, and getting better at it every year. These are both coming out of our heated greenhouse-- don't try this at home, it's too cold out there for these babies yet. We hope that you enjoy them, though. These cukes are a real crunchy treat, and are thin skinned so you don't have to peel them if you don't want to.
In other news, we are cranking out the planting these next few weeks on the farm. This week almost 5,400 onions get transplanted, and next week our strawberry plants and asparagus will arrive. The first zucchini is going into a hoophouse this week, and more summer crops are to follow-- we're potting up our unheated, regular season tomatoes this week so they're about 3 weeks from their forever home as well. Phew, it's a lot, and we'll all be spending our evenings in upward dog pose trying to reverse the bending over.
Only one more week of spring boxes, and then we take a two week break before our main season begins. However, next week Bend Farmer's Market starts every Wednesday and we will be there with produce. We'll also still be delivering to Locavore, Schoolhouse Produce, The Stand and Tumalo Farmstand, so you'll still be able to find our produce if you want it!
Your Farmers,
Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
