LAST Fall Share!

Posted on November 18th, 2024 by Ashley Thompson

Well, it's a bittersweet time of year- we've come to the end of our 2024 CSA season.  This week marks the final pickup for the season.

As promised, we have some extra options in case you want to stock up.  This week we have carrots and german butterball potatoes available for boxes, but we also have larger size options that you can swap for if you like.  We have 5# bulk carrot bags and 10# bulk Potato bags if you'd like a bigger quantity, for a better price!

The bulk potatoes will come to you brushed off but unwashed for best storage.  These will keep longest if kept cold and dark, in an attached garage that doesn't freeze, a cool closet, or in the fridge.  They will also keep for several weeks in a cupboard, you may just have to brush a few sprouts off when you wash them.  The carrots store best at 34-38 degrees, so a refrigerator or attached garage/storage that doesn't freeze is best.

This week we have extra special and sweet cabbage for you.  This is a hardy variety (pictured) that we tried for the first time to grow just for our fall CSA and they're here just in time.  It's a green cabbage but it gets a beautiful red blush on top due to cold, but amazingly can withstand very cold temperatures with no problem. We also have gorgeous spinach for you from our winter hoophouses to complete your weekly greens.

We've also got a final squash for you: Autumn Frost.  This is a specialty butternut that grows better than a butternut in our short season.  It tastes similar to a butternut but is better for roasting and stuffing or pureeing due to it's intricate ridges that make peeling a pain.  This is a great storage squash and will happily hang out on your counter for months if you want to save it for later.

Finally, we've a few more salad turnips and onions to top it off.

Thank you so much for joining us on our sixth growing season and eating all the farm has to offer.  We have some exciting changes for next season and will be in touch this winter as we prepare for our seventh CSA season!

Your Farmers,

Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
