August has arrived, and the farm bounty keeps rolling in. This is a complicated time of year, where there's so much food around, but we must be very mindful to get our fall crops started well in the heat to keep the harvest going through October and beyond!
This is also the time when we start to focus energy on putting up food for winter on the farm. This can be as simple as freezing fruits and veggies, or processing and canning sauces, pickles and jams. This week we offer you our pesto special: add or swap an optional two bunches (or more!) of Basil into your share at 2/$5, and make a few extra batches to pop into the freezer-- you'll be glad you did later! August is when the Basil is thriving, and growing at lightspeed. We have to keep up with picking it to avoid it going to seed, which would hamper our late season harvest. This is a great time to make pesto, and freeze it in jars or ice cube trays (pop them out and bag once frozen!) for easy and flavorful winter meal prep!
If you can spare some to eat fresh... boy would it be good tossed with some of these roasted new potatoes... just a thought...
Your farmers, just trying to make it through till' soup season,
