We are so happy to see some growth after *some* warmer days, though what's up with these next few?
We are desperately trying to get plants our into the field-- they are cramped for space in their little cells and our propagation house is bursting at the seams. We just potted up almost all of our peppers for the season (which feels like a lot with our new added hoop house) and there is NO ROOM IN HERE. We keep thinking we'll be out of the woods, but a low of 25 next Wednesday is not the kind of security we were hoping for.
We learn more every year and I am SO GLAD that we planted an early block of super hardy crops a couple weeks ago, and started a first round of some crops that we normally seed directly into the soil in flats for transplant this season. We made this plan after a wacky warm-winter-then-cold-spring last year, and my guess was everything would be normal this year and we wouldn't even need these cushions, but now I'm so glad to have them. Plan for the worst and hope for the best really pays off sometimes.
In our greenhouses, spring crops are looking superb. Our variety is still limited, but we're happy to add some sweet Siberian Kale to our offering this week, and fill your box with another round of perfect veggies. We are looking forward to salad turnips for next week, and green garlic coming soon as well.
Here to help you eat your greens,
Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
