I'm writing to you from an 80 degree November day. If the flood wouldn't have taken out the sweet peppers, we'd probably be thinking about "mechanical" frost by now, but we can handle the chiles that are still producing, even if it's strange to harvest a chile in November. We finished all the rest of our planting for the winter this week which would seem late except that it's 80 degrees and we know we've got all winter with a full crew to keep on harvesting. We're deep into the planning season now too, which we're doing as a complete team (rather than just Shiloh and Jason) because we're expanding from 2.8 to 9.2 acres and we need the whole team to have their brains involved in figuring out what systems we need in place in order to do that. It's exciting in many ways, but also daunting. But we've got a solid farmily to figure it out and lots of enthusiasm (and new equipment for the larger scale growing and an enclosed pack shed). We're planting fruit for the longer term, but have a lot of new space to grow things we haven't grown in a while, and much more of what we have grown. We could never have gotten this far without y'all and we appreciate your support!
Entering the scene this week are carrots and spinach. This spinach looks awesome and I'll say better late than never (we had 2 failed plantings leading up to this one so we're super excited to see if looking so delicious) More kale, salad and arugula and lots of purple daikon radish available. We're singing to the celery to make it grow faster to get here before Thanksgiving, but it's just not there yet. Send it good growing thoughts!
Enjoy your harvest this week!
