It seems like the season is going to finish similar to how it began, with lots of rain! Crops are in the ground, but we haven't been able to get into weed them at all. Fortunately, this time since we knew these rains were coming, we stale seed bedded the field before planting into it. Stale seed bedding is a technique were the ground is tilled up long before any seeds go in the ground. Then once the first few flushes of weeds come up we can go in with the tractor and weed without needing to worry about damaging any of your veggie plants!
As the Regular Season is winding down, now is the time to return any empty Share boxes you have to your drop sites. Please remember to unfold the boxes, so they lay flat, as to not take up too much room at the drop site hosts' houses. Also if you have any pint/quart containers laying around you can also bring those back as we do reuse them.
A few folks have asked about the restaurants that have supported the Farm this season so I thought maybe to let you all know. Proof, in Des Moines, has been a big supporter of the farm this season! Not only did they purchase 4 Weekly Farm Shares but also come down to the Farmers' Market to purchase produce. Harbinger, in Des Moines, has also been a great supporter purchasing things weekly at Market and also placed orders almost every week! Alba is a place we have just started working with this season but Mason and his crew have been great to work with and we're looking forward to working with them more frequently in the future. Last, but totally not least, is Fong's Pizza! They have been doing a Wabi Sabi Slice (during the Farmers' Market) for the last 6 years and have really helped promote the Farm! If you are ever at any of these places please tell them Thank You for buying produce from Wabi Sabi Farm!
