When July switches to August is when the transition seems to occur on the farm. Planting moves to the back burner (except for some fall crops and overwintered crops like garlic and onions) and cultivating becomes virtually ineffective as the weeds switch to there reproductive stage, mowing becomes the most effective method of control. It’s the time of the year where transition plans for going into winter need to be laid out. We’re hoping to get some transitioned out of crop and a winter time cover crop to protect and build the soil.
Btw, we will be having melons super soon! I’ve enjoyed a few and they are looking great this year!
Thank you for diligently returning your CSA boxes!
