As prices continue to climb, we are trying our best to keep our prices on par with previous years. Things definitely cost more for us this year though. Labor, fuel, energy, nutrients, packaging, and feed have all gone up. As our conventional neighbors see their nitrogen price double, we also see our organic inputs increase in price as they begin to seem like more of a viable replacement to synthetic nutrients for some farmers.
Here on the farm we are committed to doing what we can to increase our efficiency and producing more of the nutrients we require on the farm. By growing cover crops, rotating animal pasture, and feeding the soil microbes we hope to further reduce off farm inputs. The exception is minerals. When a mineral component is absent from the soil, it is also absent from the food. We are doing our best to identify shortfalls and supply mineral nutrients so that the plants that become food on yours on my table help to make us all healthier. We do this by foliar spraying our crops frequently (pictured is our front boom tractor sprayer we built this winter), and providing the sheep 16 different free choice minerals for them to take as they need. Thanks for supporting us on this journey!
