How to Use Spicy Greens

Posted on October 1st, 2018 by Reuben DeMaster

The Salad Greens this week is a mix of Tat Soi, a mild Japanese green, and Arugula, which people find a little spicy, though I like the unique nutty-ness of it as well.

Even if you don't prefer spicy greens there are many ways to use them that you may enjoy. Try putting the on a a pizza. Just after a pizza is removed from the oven, top the pie with a handful of greens. A sandwich is another delicious way to enjoy its flavor without being overpowered by it. Add chopped spicy greens to any vegetable soup. If you want an even milder taste, you can wilt or steam the greens. Wilted greens also freeze well to add to soups in the winter time. Finally, a creamy dressing or lots of cheese will temper the kick so you can enjoy a fresh, fall salad.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT IS WEEK 19 ALREADY?

You have received almost all your boxes of vegetables from Willow Haven farm and I hope they have been a wonderful addition to your life.

This summer and fall have been challenging but we are glad that we are finally able to get sweet potatoes into your last few boxes.  Sweet potatoes are one of our family's favorites.  You will find that if you leave them on the counter for a few extra days they will develop more flavor and sweetness.

We are continuing to pack and deliver Farm Share CSA vegetable boxes for the next three weeks to make sure everyone gets ALL their boxes, whether you are on a biweekly or weekly schedule, getting 10 or 20 boxes, or even have a make up vacation box coming.   Check your Harvie account to see your future deliveries. Please let us know if you see any corrections or adjustments that need to be made.

Please keep reading your Harvie emails in the next few weeks.  We will be sending you important end of the year information.

Have a great week!

We'll keep farming for you,

Reuben and Tessa DeMaster
