Posted on October 8th, 2018 by Reuben DeMaster

This is week 21! I can't believe how fast the season went.  We will miss all our members during the winter but are glad for the change of season and work routine.

You can keep getting our fresh farm vegetables by coming to the farm on Saturdays from 10 - 2.  We'll keep harvesting and offering great products until Christmas.

If you haven't visited the farm this year, we'd love to see you this fall.  One of our best farm events is coming up in two weeks. OPEN GATE FARM TOUR is on Sunday, Oct 21 from 1pm - 5 pm.  We'll have farm tours, hay rides, bake oven pizza's and demonstrations. Bring your family or invite some friends that might want to join next year.

Farm News: Our eggplants keep producing and while we like eggplant and there are so many delicious ways to use it, we know that some people have had enough.  Once we get our first killing frost, our eggplant, peppers and tomatoes will be done for the season.

Sweet potatoes are our favorite fall vegetable and one of our new members this year was raving about them just the other day.  Sweet potatoes have so much flavor all on their own that to add too much to them may spoil the experience.  We love to bake them and then eat them like a baked potato topped with butter, carmelized onions, cheese and spicy sausage.

Wash off the sweet potatoes, place in a baking dish whole, and bake at 450 degrees for one hour for the sweetest, smoothest baked sweet potatoes ever! No need to serve with brown sugar. They are already sweet! Store sweet potatoes in a cool, dry, well ventilated area, not the refrigerator.

Here is a wonderful fall soup for a chilly day. Sweet Potato Sausage Soup

We'll keep farming for you!
