Hello members!
Our vision of creating a market garden supported by our community is now a reality, and it becomes more resilient every week. I recently heard another small farmer explain that real passion is the ability to not let failures discourage your enthusiasm. With 2020-2021 being our first year of farming full time, that little piece of wisdom completely resonated with me. Striving to grow the best vegetables for you all is something we are always looking to improve. How can we get the best taste? What can we grow that will make someone excited to cook? How can we help folks live healthier lives? How can we bring meaning and value to our community?
I completed my walk-through of the farm a few moments ago, and the crops are really falling into place. I crop planned for adding a new vegetable every week. Giant red mustard greens are on for this week! Spicy with thick stems, they are excellent for adding to any greens dish. Available in bundles. If you missed it, check out the farm happening from last week for the full write up on komatsuna, aka Japanese spinach. Next week, we will have enough lettuce for the lettuce mix to return! Scallions are just a few weeks away, and I think the broccoli will form a head in about a month. Lastly, we had a great germination on carrots, which will be ready by Thanksgiving!
If you follow us on Facebook and Instagram, tomorrow is the last day to enter out give-away for a family-sized farm share! Check out some our latest posts for all the details of how you can enter and win!
The farm shares are the number one way for someone to support our farm. We grew this season, but still have about 20 shares that we included in the crop plan that are up for grabs. Lots of folks have signed up their parents, kids, friends, and neighbors through the referral link on the Harvie profile. If you haven't yet, let someone you love know about a farm who loves growing food for them. Once the person you email the link to spends $250 with our farm, BOTH of you get $25 towards a share. HOLLA.
If you are between shares this week, or just want to hang out with the coolest farmers you know, come see us at the Ruston Farmers Market on Saturday morning, or Grow the Roe, next to Parish Restaurant in Monroe from 5-8 PM Thursday. We have lots of new jams with some limited flavors.
Y'all, I am really grateful for this week. We hired a part-time employee! Meagan's first day is on Monday, and the timing couldn't be better. She has prior farm experience, a passion for local food, a curious mind, and a positive attitude. I think our farm is really going to grow from her input, and the quality of our produce will just get better. Stay tuned to our social media to meet her!
We appreciate all of you! Cook something good this week!
Sincerely,
Conrad Cable
