I hope that you have all enjoyed this Winter farm share season! This was the longest farm share season we have ever had! I have to tell you that I enjoyed the last 8 weeks much more than the first 8 weeks. I know I always mention the Arctic Blast, but it had a severe impact on our operation. I was so worried there would be several weeks in January when we wouldn't be able to deliver farm shares, but everything worked out. I feel like it really motivated us to always keep our guard up during the Winter season, and it got us started on the earliest Spring plantings in our farm's history.

This Week
This is one of the best farm share weeks we have had all season. We have a wonderful selection of produce, so if you don't want salad this week, you have plenty of options. We have a great harvest of beautiful sora radishes and the salad turnips are back! We have some tasty leafy greens like curly kale, Napa cabbages, bok choy, and rainbow chard bundles. Because we are entering a "break" for the next two weeks, we did not grow pea and sunflower shoots for this week. Thus, there will not be a salad & shoots mix this week, but we have a really good mesclun mix and plenty of Spring Mix. 
It feels so great to have an abundance of lettuce, and I think it's one of the best lettuce mixes we have had in a long time. A big shout out to 3 Board Farm for supplying our farm shares with free-range eggs this season! They really went above and beyond for all of us during a slow production time of the year. When our inventory was low after the freeze, their eggs saved our farm shares.
Spring Farm Shares
I'm so excited about the start of the Spring farm share season! We started planting for Spring on January 15. The first few weeks of farm shares will be very similar to this week's inventory. We will be adding sugar snap peas, carrots, scallions, kohlrabi, and chicory as soon as each of those crops is ready for harvest. By May, we will have lots of cabbage, green beans, colorful carrots, cauliflower, herbs and broccoli. All of you will get an email in a few days about the new season, and we will have a two week grace period where you can update your Harvie account with any changes. I am looking into adding some improved incentives for your referrals, so please tell your friends, family, and neighbors about how much you like our farm shares, and how they have impacted your life!
Farm Update
I see a lot of farms saying "the growing season is almost here", well, we have been harvesting and growing for the past 30 weeks. We had a long weekend break during Christmas, but it's been a grind for a long time. We really need these next few weeks to change up our routine. There's a lot of projects we just haven't had time to complete. I have two field blocks to prepare, which will increase our growing capacity more than 50%, some updates/improvements to the wash and pack station, and about 8 hours worth of weedeating around all of our fences, fields, and tunnels. Next week we have about 6000 transplants going in the ground for late Spring/Summer harvests. I've been having a lot of conversations with my fiancé, Emi, about planning for a "Current Farms Farm Tour" around the beginning of May. I don't want it to be too educational, just a walk around our farm, a few equipment demos, a farm to table lunch, and plenty of time for us to talk about local food! Nearly every week I get emails or DMs asking about farm tours, so I think now is as good of a time as any to plan one! Of course, this event will be free for all of our farm share members and your families! The blackberries and mayhaws are in full swing, it's not too hot yet, and the farm is always so green and luscious.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting our farm. I can get a little teary-eyed when I stop to think about how far we have come since we started the Harvie farm shares. Each and every of you has played such an incredible part in supporting us, trusting us, and believing in our mission. Less than 5% of farms sell directly to consumers. I refuse to be a "family farm" that does not grow food for families right in their own community. People used to be connected with who grew their food, but that is a lost part of our culture that we are all working together towards bringing back to relevancy. I hope that you feel like you are part of a budding community of people who will no doubt have a positive change our local culture. See y'all the first week of April!
