Last week was a whirlwind of farming and weather activity. In between rain events, our farm team got to work harvesting vegetables for CSA shares, farmers' market, and dining hall orders, hand dug and washed 1500 pounds of carrots, transplanted 4000 feet of fall favorites like cabbage and broccoli (in under two hours!), rescued melons and potatoes from weeds, canned dill pickles aplenty, and sold out of pizza at Wednesday’s farmers market. Believe it or not, this is a typical week at the College Farm.
Oftentimes we neglect to reflect on our accomplishments over a five-day period of time and instead, fixate on the list of work yet to do. Last week, with its many accomplishments gives me pause and appreciation for the hardworking team that we succeeded in recruiting this year.
Speaking of the farm team, we are thrilled to have Mary Silva join the Dickinson College Farm as our new administrative assistant! No stranger to the college, Mary brings to the farm position a wealth of institutional knowledge and a keen eye for finance. We are delighted to have Mary on board!!
