Farm Happenings for September 3, 2021

Posted on August 30th, 2021 by Will Nelson

ANNOUNCEMENT: This is a reminder to please wash your tomatoes before consuming them. The blue or black residue you may see on your tomatoes are organic pesticides and sprays we use to help fight against fungal diseases. The tomatoes are perfectly safe to consume once washed. Thank you.

It is hard to believe that another summer season has come to an end. With classes starting up on Monday, our full-time farm team will shrink significantly. We look forward to student farmers joining us once their class schedules have been settled. Their morning or afternoon shifts provide the farm with bursts of helping hands that allows us to tackle big projects. Students can also be relied on to infuse the farm fields with fresh energy and lively discussions which are always appreciated!

The fall season provides our farm apprentices with the opportunity to step into management roles, leading student groups on projects and mentoring new staff and volunteers on the ins and outs of farm work. This is a great time for apprentices to strengthen there leadership muscles in hopes of applying what they learn here to future endeavors. We are so lucky to have a wonderful batch of apprentices this year!!

Thanks to everyone who came to our annual CSA picnic and participated in the 2021 Farm Olympics!! We enjoyed the opportunity to share food, laughter, and updates from our fields. We look forward to seeing you over the coming months and continuing to provide you and your families with fresh vegetables from our fields.

All the best,
Jenn
