Happy October CSA members!
August and September are the hardest months for vegetable farmers. All the crops are rolling in, we still have weeds to contend with, the irrigation needs are usually high, we are tired from a long summer, on and on. Getting into October always feels good.
We are up to more bulk harvesting of fall crops this week. We should pull in cauliflower, some broccoli, lots of cabbage, more napa cabbage, and lots of beets. We have another crop of carrots about ready to start digging soon too. Sweet potatoes are about done curing and will be ready for shares next week.
Pictured: Farmboy George, with farmdog Nina inspecting the kale. I have George pretty well convinced that kale is a treat and he always requests a leaf to munch on whenever we are near the patch. Kale is one of our favorite vegetables in our house. I like to fry some up with eggs for breakfast but we sneak it in most suppers for some added nutrients and fiber.
Enjoy!
