Hey all,
With a few light frosts, we are fully into the fall season. We cleaned out the last few tomatoes and peppers this week. But, the good news is that our fall crops are humming along. The leafy greens are looking great, broccoli, cabbage, napa cabbage are all strong and healthy.
Our fresh vegetable workload is starting to dwindle. Now we are turning our attention to upgrades for next year. One of the major ones is migrating our mechanic shop from right there at the farm entrance to up by our greenhouses. The new shop will allow us to pull our machines indoors to work on them. This will make winter tractor maintenance a lot nicer! It'll also give us a good place to work on rainy day projects.
In other big news: the new Biogas Digester is nearing completion. For those that don't know, Farmer Matt has embarked on an enormous and ambitious project to capture all of the organic waste from our farm, the dining hall, and our neighbors dairy farm. He will collect that waste in a newly built facility that will turn it into methane gas. That gas will go through a generator and create enough electricity to power both our farm and the neighbors. Once the methane is extracted, we will be able to use the resulting slurry as the basis for our composting program. We are hopeful production begins this winter!
Enjoy the veggies!
