It's said comets are harbingers of doom

Posted on September 26th, 2021 by John Eisenstein

Yes, I hear quite often that comets are harbingers of doom, but I'm just a simple peasant, not an astronomer, so I can't really say if it is true.  But what better harbinger of fall is there than a tree of nearly ripe quinces, as pictured above?  I'm sharing that picture solely for the beauty of the quince-- I only have one, make that two, very young trees and I don't have enough to offer in your shares-- not that anybody is interested in quinces, anyways, even if I were to have enough.  Or am I wrong?

We're entering into the home stretch of the csa season-- three more delivery weeks after this one.  Next week we'll start the sweet potato harvest in earnest, followed by carrots, beets and napa cabbage the week after.  This is probably my favorite time of year.

We have a lot of pretty large Asian pear "seconds"-- good fruit with some hard, dry bits near the skin.  I don't recommend them for fresh eating, but I'm offering them in bulk for cooking or processing.

I'm also offering bulk kiwiberries, at a good price-- we're having a very abundant harvest.  Any jam lovers out there, rejoice.  Also they make excellent fruit leathers for anyone with an immersion lender and a dehydrator.
