Hello again! Strawberries are ripe and looking (and tasting) good, although we can only hope we don't get too much rain or other nasty strawberry weather today (Sunday). Picking strawberries is a slow endeavor, and frankly not my favorite, but luckily they start to ripen just when summer vacation is starting, so we usually get some extra hands to help us pick. If, for some unknown reason Harvie does not give you strawberries AND there are none left in inventory for you to swap for, please let me know, I'll see to it you get some.
It seems like things went fairly smoothly last week-- at least, I didn't get more than a few frantic text messages wondering what was going on, and I think we packed all the boxes correctly. Remember, if something isn't right, please tell me.
One question we sometimes get is whether greens (spinach, kale) in bags are washed. Although we do wash all produce if it appears soil-y (I don't use the word "dirt" when I mean "soil"), the produce is not considered ready to eat, as we do not operate a PDA licensed and inspected restaurant or other retail prepared food outlet. We are a farm, and although we regularly test our rinse water source (a well) for pathogens, our attorney recommends that we recommend that you thoroughly inspect and wash all produce before consumption.
Crop update: peas are flowering. I'm trying to upload a nice picture of our endless- seeming peafield here, but the computer isn't co- operating. Mayby next week.
