Happy Friday.
I hope your week has been great. We have been busting our little tails this week with tons of weeding, feeding, seeding and transplanting. The weeks are always busy on a farm in July.
I am filled with so much hope walking through the fields seeing so many flowers on our crops. We have so many flowers from the small cream flowers of the paper plants to the giant yellow flowers of the squash plants to the super showy flowers of the eggplants. Each of these flowers has the potential to produce an amazing fruit for us to eat. The little tastes of peppers and this week, eggplants, are just little teases of what's to come. Our fields in Gunbarrel are bursting with so many flowers, the pollinators must be over the moon.
Due to the very wet spring and then the very hot dry summer, we have shifted some production This year we are growing our fall broccoli, cauliflower and cabbages in Niwot. It I exciting to see the fields filling up with our fall bounty. In farming you can't get to bogged down in the daily grind as you have to be thinking about the whole season. Before you know it we will all be wearing sweaters and eating the summer food that we have been able to preserve.
Fruit Shares Begin This Week
The fruit season is underway! It has been wonderful to have access to some early fruit over the last few weeks. Now the fruit flow is really set to begin. For the next 12 weeks, members who have purchased a fruit share will see the fruit automatically added to their share. The fruit will normally go right into your share box, but if we are doing something crazy like sending you a flat of peaches or a bushel of pears, we will let you know in this email on where to find your fruit at your pick up.
This week the fruit share will consist of a large bag of Rising Star peaches.
Add On Items
Please make sure to look at all of the amazing items you can add to your share. We have honey, flowers, pasta, eggs, flour, peaches and Nurse Nikki's amazing Calendula Body Butter made from our own calendula flowers.
Have a great week and enjoy your food.
