Howdy from the farming roller coaster.
Have you ever had such wild week where wonder if you are being tested? This has been one of those weeks. We have had equipment break, a car drive off of Jay Rd and take out 50 feet of concrete irrigation channel and a tree, a sink hole start to form in our new property and a bogs forming in a few of our fields. Staff needed to be consoled with messages of strength and resiliency and apologies for being sharp needed to be offered. In the end though, we have harvested our garlic, planted fall beets, carrots, lettuces and fed hundred of families. All in all, a good week even if it felt like it was going off the rails most of the time.
This week we are bringing in some organic beets from our dear friend Greg Demenico to add to our shares. We are going to have red, gold and chioggia beets in our shares. We are also getting into our squash with 5 different varieties and a few early peppers. Plus we will have a small number of delicious cherry tomatoes in the shares from here on out. More summer crops are just around the corner.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Aiden, Cayla, Michael and all the amazing farmers working hard at Kilt Farm
