Hello and welcome to the second-to-last week CSA.
It's hard not getting choked up a little as we come down to the end of the season. I have witnessed so much over the last year. I watched my son being born and developing to now wanting to crawl on everything. I watched the farm turn from a wide-open parcel of land into a beautiful and productive foodie paradise. We have had crazy weather extremes and so many days of harmful air quality, but we have also seen so much joy on your faces and ours as we share our food.
At this time of year I start a process of reflection on what we have accomplished, where we excelled, and where we feel short. I also try to take note of what hurt and what created joy. I am always wanting to do better as a farmer, father, and leader. Often taking a step back helps me see where we have come and feel all of the feelings. As we move towards the end of another season, I invite you to pause a bit and reflect on your experience this year with this crazy adventure we are all involved in; local agriculture and nourishing, delicious food.
We are deeply honored to be your farmers.
It is time to squirrel away some food! - We are coming to the end of the season but we are still harvesting even as we start the wind down process. Now is a great time to start storing a bit of food for the winter. We are featuring Butternut Squash in this week's share but we also have Spaghetti squash available to trade out or add into your share. I have also added a ton of extra veggies for you to add to your shares this week; from the last of the summer crops to all of our winter squash. Go ahead, add a few extra things for preserving or to put in the cool spot in your house or garage. The winter squash will store for months in a cool dry spot.
Fruit Share - This is the last week of our Fruit Share. It has been 12 amazing weeks of Colorado fruit. This week we will have a bag of each Fuji Apples, Elephant Heart Plums, and Bartlett pears. A fitting smorgasbord of fruit for our last week.
Add ons - For the final two weeks of the CSA we will have a limited number of extra Fair Farm eggs. This week we also have lots of winter squash, peppers, and tomatoes. Plus we will have all of our goodies including raw honey, freshly milled flour, and fragrant Lillies.
Enjoy all of the amazing food this week. Stay warm and snuggly as fall settles in.
Thank you for being part of Kilt Farm.
