Celebrating Independence with our food choices - Week 4 CSA

I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July filled with food, fun, friends and family.

I started my farming journey almost two decades ago when I realized how much need there was to improve access to high quality food in our mountain communities. As I started to farm here in Boulder County in 2012 my vision has always been to elevate the local food system with both the quality and quantity of food we produce. This meant growing my farm as I grew food on the farm. The community as always been a vital part of this journey.

I am so grateful for you, our CSA Member. The CSA concept allows the farmer to minimize their debt load as we start from scratch every season. Having a dedicated CSA community keeps the wind in our wings even if everything else is pushing us down. Our relationship with you is circular and hopefully synergistic. Your faith in us allows us to grow food and farmers every year as we feed you and our community.

The Colorado farming season always starts lightly with a huge amount of unpredictability and early season CSA shares reflect this fact. As the summer builds so does the food in our shares in variety and quantity. When summer turns to fall the bounty of Colorado produce can become overwhelming. Our summer crops are still producing as the fall squash, garlic, melons, cauliflowers, broccoli and more fill our shares. Whew, so much amazing food. We look at the value of the CSA as a continuum from the first light share until the heavy bounty of fall.

We always strive to make sure you receive copious foods throughout the entirety of the season. Your support helps us continue to do the crazy thing, farming in Boulder County Colorado.

Thank you for being a part of our farm.

Fruit Share Update

We have some exciting news - The orchards of the Western Slope farmers are starting to produce fantastic fruit and we are about to start our fruit share. Here's what you need to know:

  • The fruit share will begin the week of July 16th and run for 12 weeks.
  • If you have not signed up for a Fruit Share yet, it's not too late
  • Fruit Shares will automatically be added into your CSA box.

No fruit share, no problem. You can still add fruit to your order as an add-on any week till the end of the season.

Add-Ons

Peaches

Speaking of fruit... Flaming Fury Peaches are our Fruit Add-On for the week. Welcome the summer stone-fruits and grab a 3 lb bag of organic Flaming Fury Peaches to add on to your share!

These semi-freestone peaches are an early season treat-- Crisp & juicy flesh, delicious & balanced sweetness, and the perfect fresh bite to cool off in the summer heat. Throw some peaches in a summer pie, fold into a homemade breakfast pastry, throw in some yogurt or on top of ice cream, bring color to your cheese board, or eat on-the-go for a refreshing snack.
