Well, I was wrong. I thought the sweet corn would be finished by now, but Detweiler Farm has quite a bit more for at least one more week. Giant broccoli is on the menu again, too. Hakurei turnips and green beans make a reappearance for some of you, but we have limited quantities of those. Red and white potatoes are ready to be added to your fall dinners. And lots more!
Detweiler Farm also has jack-o-lantern pumpkins for just a few dollars, plus these cute little pumpkins for your tabletop decorations. These two varieties aren't generally consumed as food.
I love being a part of a cooperative of farmers. Each farm has strengths and weaknesses. What grows well on one farm does poorly on another. We benefit from the strengths of several farms, giving us more variety than if our CSA boxes were sourced from only one farm. Plus we have the meats and other add-on shares and the large variety in the Webstore to expand your CSA share even further because we can draw from so many farms.

Glacial Till Farm
Adding to the bcs implement lineup.
This compost spreader is built in Pennsylvania and is specifically designed for the market garden system. I had the pleasure of talking to the designers at a conference while it was still in the pre manufacturing stage. Now I’m happy to say it’s going to be a huge timesaver for my operation. You can see the spreader in action and get a peek at farmer Derek in a video shared on our Facebook page.

Bushel and a Peck Farm
We are in frantic mode on our farm right now. Because all of the events where we sell our maple products have been canceled this year, we decided to open our store at Grove City Premium Outlets a month early. Our store, Philson & Friends Artisanal Wares, is filled with products from local crafters, farmers, and vendors. We usually operate during November and December for holiday shopping, but this year we are opening October 8. So besides our full-time jobs and our kids' activities, we are lining up all of our vendors and setting up the store for opening on Thursday. We were in the same store for the last two years, but that store isn't available now, so we are adding different shelving. If you want to come see us, we are in store 730, between Nike and the Food Court. We will be open through January 3 for you to shop locally for the holidays. I love meeting some of our CSA members face to face.
Webstore
In the Webstore this week you can order breads from Going with the Grain Bakery, lots of veggies (some different varieties than we have in CSA), various meats, milk, cheese, yogurt, maple products, honey, salves and beauty products, and lots more. Your Webstore order will be delivered with your CSA Share for no extra delivery fee. What a great deal! www.nwpagrowers.com/login
Have a great week. Get out and enjoy the fall weather, and then make a pot of soup with your CSA veggies to warm you up.
