Farm News

The high winds last week did some damage on our farms.  From Glacial Till Farm:  "Nature likes to make sure I understand my place. 60+ mph winds devastated my propagation tunnel the night before my largest scheduled seed starting day. If I’ve learned one thing from farming my entire life it’s resilience, I got right back to work rebuilding the tunnel with a few high wind modifications and now I’m ready to start all those seeds."  Thankfully the only thing that had been planted were onions, and they were easy to reseed.

At Philsons Bushel & a Peck Farm we've been busy boiling maple syrup.  We've made just 90 gallons so far this year, which is less than usual, mostly because life was too busy to tap earlier.  We have more sap to boil today, but the cold forecast for this week will put a damper on sap collection.  We'll have to wait to see if sap production resumes when the weather warms up a little or if the trees decide that they're finished for the year.

Smashed Irish Potatoes

Dublin Coddle (Irish Sausage and Potato Stew):  Buy bulk sausage and make mini meatballs in place of the casing sausages.  And I would add some greens at the end of cooking.  Serve with a green salad and some Irish soda bread.

You have one less hour to customize your share this weekend.  Remember to spring forward on your clocks.
