Welcome September!
Is your household back to school this week? We are, so there are lots of changes to our routine! If your family is 'back to school' this week, I hope you have a good start!
Our pup, Buttercup, appears to be settling in well. Nelly, our dog, is assisting with her training -- setting clear boundaries and being a good example. There are lots of walks to channel all that puppy energy constructively. Fortunately, Buttercup is very affectionate and keen to bond with the whole family. This is not always a given with livestock guarding dogs and was the reason why we choose the breeder we did -- the breeder's family includes kids and so Buttercup had lots of time with children during a very formative time of her life.
In your shares this week, the tomato bounty continues along with the first delights of autumn -- cabbages are back and should be joined soon by broccoli and cauliflower.
In addition to harvesting and packing veg shares, we are planting lots of cover crops to nourish and protect the soil. Our mix includes oats, rye, field peas and fava beans. A great idea for home gardens too! And we are harvesting more seed crops -- we'll start on the cilantro this week. This will be a new adventure for us!
