Hello Farmshare Members,
It's the last week of October, and we are nearing the end of the farmshare season. It has been such an unusually sunny and warm fall, that it was beginning to feel like it would last forever. But November is just around the corner, and as I write this, there is finally rain in the forecast.
In preparation for the rain, the farm crew spent last week bring in the remaining squash and potatoes from the field. This means lots of bins coming in to the cooler and the dry storage shed. Our pack shed manager Andy has been extra busy and extra patient as we bring in more and more storage crops to somehow fit in the already full cooler space.
Now is a good time to stock up on those storage crops! We only have a few weeks left in the farmshare season. If you have space in your cupboards, you might consider adding on extra potatoes, squash and root crops to your weekly box. These items will keep for weeks after the end of the farmshare season.
For Wednesday and Thursday delivery, your last box of the season will be the week of November 7th.
For Monday delivery, your last box of the season will be on Monday November 14th
In this weeks box, you'll find lots of goodies- delicata squash, potatoes, and more beautiful bock choy. You may also find shallots in your box. Shallots are a member of the the onion family prized by chefs for their rich, delicate favor. Raw shallots are milder than raw onions and making them a great addition to a vinaigrette. Sliced and sauteed, shallots add depth and flavor to a soup or pasta sauce.
Enjoy!
