Beginnings

Posted on May 28th, 2020 by Danielle *Allen

This week marks the beginning of our Summer CSA Share season. We welcome our new CSA members to this adventure in eating with the seasons! And welcome back to our returning members!! We're so happy that you've joined us for a summer of delicious, fresh food.

This hot, dry weather means we have an abundant crop of asparagus, tons of leafy greens, and our earliest crop of cucumbers ever, ready for your first share this week. Time to whip up some simple salad dressings and eat a big green salad with every meal!

We hope that you'll use the swap and add on features to customize your box. If you find that you're not getting the right mix of things in your box, then check back in with your preferences and make adjustments. We want this system to work so you can really make the most of your vegetables and nothing goes to waste.

Familiarize yourself with what grows when.

If you're new to seasonal eating, it's a good idea to get familiar with what kinds of foods to expect when, so you can pace your anticipation. Asparagus in June, tomatoes and peppers starting in July, watermelons in August, winter squash in late September, and so on. Also, check out our recipe pages on the root5farm website from time to time for new ideas on how to prepare vegetables that may be unfamiliar.

We want to hear your feedback.
The contents of our boxes are guaranteed. If for any reason, you're dissatisfied with the quality of an item, we happily offer a credit on your CSA account. We take pride in the freshness and quality of the vegetables we grow and deliver to you. Since we're dealing with highly perishable items, there's bound to be spoilage at one time or another. We invite members to give us feedback right away if something is amiss.

We've got a busy week ahead, taking care of all of our newly planted seedlings, watering, watering, watering, pruning tomatoes and cucumbers, and harvesting for your shares! Let us know how your first share goes!
