The temperatures are finally warm enough so we're putting our energy towards planting crops in the fields! Thousands of baby plants went in the ground this past week- summer squash, sweet peppers, parsley, tomatoes, scallions, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, chard, bok choy, hot peppers, cucumbers, and more! Ben (pictured above) also direct seeded many many beds of carrots, beets, cilantro, dill, arugula, and green beans. This is the earliest we've ever gotten all of our tomatoes and peppers in the ground by two weeks!
The roller coaster ride of spring weather has been particularly extreme this year, with days in the 90's and nights still in the low 40's, and strong gusty winds ripping through the valley. These extremes are stressful for the plants as they transition from the controlled environment of our greenhouse out into the soil. But we've had a few well-timed rainstorms to help water in our new plantings, and overall things are off to a good start.
Our perennial asparagus crop has been loving the heat and the rain, so you'll see abundant asparagus available this week for your boxes. Enjoy!
