They're slower to ripen then other summertime favorites like tomatoes and cucumbers, but the peppers are finally here in all their glorious colors, shapes, and sizes! We have hundreds of pounds of sweet and hot peppers, ready to be included in your shares this week. They’re delicious raw, chopped into salads, or easily preserved in various ways—pickling, canning, freezing, or dehydrating. One way you can plan ahead is to stuff and freeze peppers for convenient winter time meals. If you're interested in preserving peppers this season, we’ll be offering bulk quantities for the next few weeks, so stock up while you can.
Tomatoes are also in abundance, making it the perfect time to whip up a fresh salsa. Experiment with your salsa by adding a bit of heat with fresnos or jalapeños, or a smoky touch with poblanos. Prefer sweetness? Our rainbow mix peppers are just right. You’ll also find onions, cilantro, scallions, and peaches in your shares this week to enhance your salsa creations.
Additionally, we have fresh corn from Crossroads Farm. It’s sweet enough to eat raw, but why not try it with homemade herb butter? Fresh herbs like cilantro, basil, and parsley are perfect for mixing into softened butter to spread over hot corn on the cob. As Epicurious says, "Corn need not be fancy."
Enjoy!
