This season I am really trying to dial in my production and post-harvest systems on the farm. That way I can eliminate wasted time and effort dealing with inefficient systems and spend more time doing things that create value for you.
One example of wasted effort is moving produce from the garden or wash shed to the walk-in-cooler several hundred yards away. So this past week I was praying about whether God wanted me to invest in another cooler located the garden or just deal with it this season. I felt like it would save a lot of time and allow me to keep produce fresher, especially in the summer, but I didn't know whether I could afford it right now or not.
As I was praying about it I felt like I should look some to see if there was any free insulation on Craigslist that I could use to build one myself. To keep a long story short, I found someone in B'ham who was cleaning out an old bakery and was able to purchase two sets of walk-in-cooler panels for $100! So grateful to God because I can no credit for 'being in the right place at the right time'.
The guy also had a huge commercial sink (which I have been needing for washing produce) and I was able to purchase it for $150!
I pray that I can be a good steward of these tools and resources and use them to produce healthy food for you and your family this season.
